A Community Recognition Statement delivered on 22 August, 2023, by the Member for Keira, the Hon. Ryan Park MP.

Mr RYAN PARK (Keira)—As the Nation is currently captivated by the growing dominance of women's sport, I take great privilege in recognising the outstanding achievement of the Under 14s Girls Illawarra Hawks basketball team, who will be going on to compete in the National Championships later this year. The Illawarra Hawks Under 14s Girls team is a representative side, made up of the best athletes in our region. After a standout season, the team can write their name in the history books of Basketball Illawarra, as the first junior female state championship team in over eleven years. They have gone undefeated in the Junior Premier League season and have dominated the NSW state championships. The team will now travel to Melbourne later this year in hopes of continuing their winning streak and claiming the National title. I commend all the athletes, coaches and staff for their hard work and dedication during this season and beyond. As we rally behind our beloved Matildas, it is important we show the same amount of support for all our local female sporting teams. Go the Hawks!
